Best Playgrounds in Chattanooga, TN
Chattanooga is full of amazing outdoor activities, including some awesome playgrounds and green spaces where kids can run around and play. Not only are these parks completely free to enjoy, but they also sit near other popular Chattanooga attractions.
This means you can easily add playground time onto your day’s itinerary with very little effort. The Scenic City’s parks and play areas are perfect for toddlers and kids of all sizes. Both my kindergartener and my (almost) middle schooler enjoy spending time at the playgrounds on my list.
Since these parks are situated all over the city, you are bound to find one near you. So, if you are looking for fun things to do in Chattanooga with kids and parks are at the top of your list, continue reading below. In this post, I will review my family’s favorite playgrounds in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
1. Riverview Park

Riverview Park is our go-to playground for fun in Chattanooga. It has a really large, well-kept play area and is located in Chattanooga’s North Shore neighborhood. Riverview Park has plenty of playground equipment including a separate area for smaller kids. Visitors will also find a large lawn perfect for playing soccer or throwing a frisbee. You can even pack your own food to enjoy in the covered pavilion, which has plenty of picnic tables.
2. Miracle League Playground
One of the BEST parks in the city is right next door to the Chattanooga Zoo. The Miracle League Playground has TONS of playground equipment for kids of all sizes. Canopies keep the larger slide areas shaded in the summertime too! The Miracle League Playground offers swings that can hold multiple kids at the same time, slides of all different heights, and climbing features all within a gated area.

Since this play area is located near downtown Chattanooga, you have loads of options for kid-friendly restaurants and other area attractions to visit. The best thing about this playground is that the zoo is right next door! It is one of my favorite places to spend a couple hours with kids in the city.
3. Riverfront Playground
Just like the name implies, Riverfront Playground is located right on the river in downtown Chattanooga. So, you definitely can’t beat this location! From this park, you get a really great view of the river and of Chattanooga’s beautiful bridges. It’s also within a super easy walk of the Tennessee Aquarium!

In fact, this park is located right across from the parking lot I recommend using when visiting the aquarium. Since this playground is right downtown, you have SO many options for places to eat nearby. You can also walk to various other Chattanooga attractions including the IMAX Theater, the Creative Discovery Museum, Chattanooga Lookouts stadium, and Chattanooga’s Art District.
4. Coolidge Park
Coolidge Park is a must-visit spot if you are in Chattanooga with kids. This spacious park is located in the Northshore of Chattanooga, which is easily accessed from downtown via the Walnut Street Bridge (aka the pedestrian bridge). This park doesn’t offer slides and swings like the previous playgrounds I recommended. Instead, it features a HUGE lawn with lots of pathways perfect for walking, riding bikes, or roller blading.
When visiting Coolidge Park, you also get amazing views of the river, bridges, and downtown area. Coolidge Park has so many options for fun things for kids to do including:
- stroller friendly walking paths
- bike rentals
- splash zone
- restaurants
- carousel
- ice cream/snow cones
- huge lawn
This park provides some of the best photo taking spots in Chattanooga too!
5. Chester Frost State Park
Chester Frost Park is located just outside Chattanooga in Hixson, TN. This family friendly park sits right on Lake Chickamauga and provides lots of fun activities for kids. Visitors to Chester Frost Park will find a sandy beach area with swimming access. Kids also love climbing on the multiple playgrounds and enjoying lunch in the picnic areas. If your family loves camping, Chester Frost Park is a great place to camp with kids! You will find restroom and laundry facilities along with rentable shelters and campsites. Families also enjoy Chester Frost Park for the tennis courts, sand volleyball area, and boat ramps.
6. Indoor Playground in Chattanooga

Although it’s not free of charge like the other Chattanooga playgrounds on my list, the indoor playground at the Creative Discovery Museum is definitely worth mentioning. Right off the entrance to the museum, this indoor playground is gigantic and so much fun for kids! It features many different climbing areas, pathways, and slides for kids of all ages.
**Note that if you have a toddler or small child, you may want to access the play area with them.
7. Camp Jordan Playground
If you’re looking for parks near Chattanooga, Camp Jordan offers a great option. The playground here features swings, slides, and climbing features. Plus, Camp Jordan offers lots of green space and walkways. You could really make a day of playing on the Camp Jordan playground and getting exercise on the walking trails. My kids especially love to see the geese that tend to fly around the park as well.

You are AMAZING!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH! We are visiting next week. Do you recommend any restaurants. We will have 4 adults and 3 toddlers with us.
Hey Samantha,
Thank you for your comment. I know how stressful traveling with toddlers can be, so I’m glad you found this post helpful! Based on the email you sent, I’m going to assume you are looking for restaurants near Rock City and Ruby Falls. I have eaten at Cafe 7, which is inside Rock City, and it provides great food and amazing views. Big Rock Grill is also just inside the entrance to Rock City, but I haven’t yet tried it. Near Rock City/Ruby Falls, Mojo Burrito and 1885 Grill are both great options. Some other really good restaurants that are somewhat close to that area are Urban Stack, The Terminal Brewhouse, and Public House. Chattanooga restaurants are very toddler friendly, so you should have a great time no matter where you choose to dine. Have a great trip!
