I’m going to start by providing a link to our free printable Disney packing list. This pdf packet features a full list of items to pack for Disney World as well as a blank checklist for you to add your own items. This list is completely free to print and consume for personal use.

As you read through our Disney packing list, you’ll notice some items that may seem odd or unique to take to WDW. If you read through the rest of this article, we explain why we pack each of these items. After taking multiple trips to Disney World over the years, our family has come up with our checklist of essential items to pack. While some of them may seem strange at first, you’ll completely get it once you read the reasoning behind them.

Ultimate Disney World Packing List Explained

Below, we are including a list of all the items my family and I make sure to pack for our Walt Disney World trips. You’ll also find a printable Disney packing list in this post. However, we recommend reading through each section prior to printing for full explanations about why we pack certain items.

Clothes to Pack for Disney World

When discussing the types of clothes to pack for Disney World, it really depends on two things: the weather and personal preference. Central Florida typically features balmy weather well into the fall (and even the winter) months. If you’re planning a Disney World vacation during the spring, summer, or fall, you will want to prepare for hot temperatures and pack accordingly.

If you are traveling in the winter months, I recommend checking the forecast before you start packing. December and January temperatures can range from highs in the 50’s to temps close to 90 degrees. That being said, even with warmer temperatures during the day, the nights can feel a lot cooler.

It’s a good idea to plan to wear layers that you can remove or add to when the temperature changes. Regardless of the weather outside, you’re going to want to pack comfortable shoes for touring the parks. My family and I prefer to wear sneakers or waterproof sandals while at the parks. If you don’t anticipate your feet getting wet on water rides or in the rain, you should be fine in sneakers.

However, if your family enjoys getting soaked on some of the parks’ water rides, you will want to wear shoes that won’t result in blisters at the end of the day. We usually put our kids in Keen Waterproof Sandals because they hold up really well even after you wash them several times. (Amazon Affiliate Link)

These breathable sandals also feature straps that keep the shoes securely fastened to kids’ feet. Plus, they dry really fast, they are super comfortable, and they’re cute! For a full list of the clothes my family and I pack for a Disney World vacation, you can check out this list. However, you may not need everything on the list depending on the season you travel.

  • Hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Bathing suit (several)
  • Coverups
  • Flip flops
  • Breathable shirts
  • shorts/comfortable pants
  • Workout clothes
  • Dressier clothes and shoes (if dining at a restaurant with a dress code)
  • pajamas
  • Socks
  • Sneakers (or comfortable walking shoes)
  • waterproof sandals
  • Undergarments
  • Light jacket or cardigan

Toiletries

When you’re packing for any trip, toiletries can include a wide variety of items. The toiletries we are including in our Disney packing list are those my family and I plan to take on any vacation.

Depending on where you are staying at Disney World, you may not feel the need to pack things like shampoo and conditioner as many hotels offer these. Still, a lot of families prefer to use the products they are familiar with, so we’ll include them on our list below.

The toiletries you may want to pack for Disney World include:

  • Toothbrushes/toothpaste
  • Floss/mouthwash
  • Deodorant
  • Face moisturizer
  • Shaving cream/razors
  • Lotion
  • Sunscreen
  • Laundry bag
  • Hairbrush/hair products
  • Makeup
  • Perfume/cologne
  • Air freshener
  • Flat iron/curling iron
  • Hair dryer (Most accommodations have this item, but we like to bring our own.)
  • Downy Wrinkle Releaser- This is a miracle product! You just spray it on your clothes, smooth them out, and the wrinkles disappear as it dries. You can find travel sized bottles here. (Amazon Affiliate Link)
  • Liquid hand soap- This may just be my family, but we prefer liquid hand soap by the bathroom sink. The bar soap that is typically provided tends to dry out our hands, and it makes a huge mess.

Again, some of the items listed above may be unnecessary for your family. But, we wanted to include every item that we like to pack just in case someone finds it useful.

Essential Items

This list of essential items to pack for Disney World consists of those things that you really don’t want to leave home without. These are the things that may send you into a panic mode if you happen to realize you left them at home. The following items can be characterized as essential things to pack for a Disney trip:

  • Cell phone
  • Credit cards
  • Cash for tipping
  • Prescription medications
  • ID/passport
  • Camera
  • Glasses/contact lenses

The essential items listed above include those things that would be difficult to replace at the last minute at Disney World.

Baby/Kids Items

Disney World does a really great job of providing lots of baby, toddler, and kid essentials at their resort shops and markets. However, the cost to purchase these items at the resort rather than at home is typically significantly different.

Therefore, if you are traveling to Disney World with little ones, you may want to consider packing the following items:

  • Stroller
  • Goggles
  • Puddle jumper
  • Bubbles or small toys (to keep kids busy in line)
  • Baby soap
  • Favorite toys/blankets
  • formula/bottles
  • Stroller rain cover (Amazon Affiliate Link)
  • Diapers
  • Wipes
  • Diaper cream
  • Swim diapers
  • bibs
  • Sippy cups
  • Scented diaper bags
  • Pacifiers

If you’re interested in more information about visiting the Walt Disney World Resort with young kids, we recommend checking out our article on Surviving Disney World with Toddlers. In that post, we provide lots of tips on how to have a (sort of) stress free Disney vacation with little ones.

Weather-Related Items to Pack for Disney Parks

The list below includes those items you may want to pack for touring the Disney parks. Above, we discussed the clothes and shoes that my family and I prefer to wear to the theme parks. So, this list will not include apparel. Instead, we will talk about those things that help make touring the parks much easier, especially if you have kids in tow.

Additionally, some of the items in this list are weather related. But note that if you are visiting Disney World during the winter months, you may not need the items listed below that keep you cool. If you are planning a Disney vacation during the summer months, we highly recommend you prepare for lots and lots of rain.

Disney World castle in rain

Florida is known to get heavy downpours basically every afternoon during the summer months. These showers are typically short-lived, and the sun returns in no time. However, you can find yourself drenched and uncomfortable for the rest of the day if you don’t prepare in advance.

(The pink links in the list are all Amazon Affiliate Links. It’s important to note that I only recommend items that my family and I personally use and love.)

Regarding the bags mentioned above, a fanny pack would be the easiest park bag to carry around the parks. However, if you are traveling with little ones, a fanny pack probably won’t cut it.

Unique Things to Pack for Disney World

The items below are unique things that you would take to Disney World but probably not pack for other vacations. Some of the items you may want to include in your bags are:

  • Disney pins (for pin trading)
  • Mouse ears
  • Autograph book
  • Glow sticks
  • Sharpie (for Disney characters to sign your book)
  • Dish soap/Bottle brush- If you bring refillable water bottles, you will want to pack dish soap to clean them in the bathroom. I also pack a bottle brush to reach down into the water bottle for cleaning.

More Disney Packing Tips

In addition to the items listed above, you may want to use packing cubes (affiliate link) to help keep your clothes organized for your trip. You can purchase a different color for each family member in order to keep everyone’s items easily accessible.

These packing cubes come in sets of different sizes, so you can designate a cube for pajamas, one for swimsuits, another for clothes, etc. Once you arrive at your hotel room, you can simply place the cubes in a drawer or on a shelf for easy unpacking.

My Disney Experience App

I almost included the My Disney Experience App on the packing list, but decided against it since it’s not a tangible item. However, I cannot stress enough how important it is to download this super useful app before your trip. The My Disney Experience App provides loads of information including operating hours, ride wait times, menus, and park maps. If you have multiple adults or teens in your travel party, each of you may want to download the app.

You can view all of your plans and dining reservations, which really helps keep you organized during your Walt Disney World vacation. The My Disney Experience App also keeps track of your park tickets. If you haven’t had a chance to purchase your park tickets yet, we highly recommend using Undercover Tourist IF you plan to visit the parks on multiple days.

Undercover Tourist is a really reputable company that offers official Disney World (and other theme park) tickets at discounted prices. That being said, if you are only buying tickets for one or two days, the Undercover Tourist prices aren’t really different from the WDW prices.

However, if you plan to purchase tickets for multiple days, you can really save a lot. The more days you purchase, the more you save. If you would like further information, we provide a full review on our experiences using Undercover Tourist in this post. I also want to add that they have incredible customer service if you ever need to contact them for anything.

Where to Stay at Disney

I’m sure you’ve noticed in your research that the Walt Disney World Resort is full of so many different options for places to stay. From cheap hotels on property to luxurious Disney resorts to rental houses off property, families often have a difficult time deciding what to choose. Since my family and I have visited Disney World on multiple occasions, I have compiled a list of posts to help you with your search to find accommodations.

If you prefer to stay offsite at Disney World, you may be interested in our post on The Best Hotels Near Disney World. That article includes highly rated places to stay that are really close to the Disney parks. Visitors who want additional space for extended family, may be interested in renting a vacation home in Orlando near Disney World.

My family and I use VRBO when renting vacation houses and condos when we travel. You’ll find all kinds of rentals available in the Lake Buena Vista area, including condos and elaborate homes that feature game rooms, movie theaters, private pools, etc.

Finally, if you prefer to stay at a Disney Deluxe Resort (our personal favorite), you can check out our post that ranks the Disney Deluxe hotels. You may be surprised at the hotel that we put at the bottom of our list too. It’s usually a bucket list hotel for visitors!

If you choose to go the Disney Deluxe route, we highly recommend checking out David’s Vacation Club Rentals. This really reputable company allows you to book rooms from Disney Vacation Club members. It’s a really easy process, and you can reserve a luxurious, deluxe Disney World hotel for hundreds less than the regular nightly price. If you would like more information on how this works, you can read all about it in our review of the Best DVC Rental Site.

My family and I have used this method multiple times. In fact, I try to use David’s Vacation Club Rentals on every single visit, but they sometimes don’t have availability. You can check them out here to see if they have rooms available for your dates and to price out exactly how much you save with their cost calculator.
