Dollywood Roller Coasters

If you’re a roller coaster enthusiast, you may be wondering whether or not Dollywood has enough exciting rides to keep you entertained. Thrill seekers can rest assured that they will have plenty of opportunities to experience fast-paced roller coasters at the Dollywood Theme Park. These exciting rides feature all kinds of loops and quick drops to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Plus, Dollywood even offers smaller roller coasters for little kids who don’t yet reach the minimum height requirements for the large coasters. If you’re looking for additional attractions for toddlers and little kids at Dollywood, I recommend checking out our post on Navigating Dollywood Ride Wait Times. In that article, we include park touring itineraries for toddlers and preschoolers.

But, if you’re more interested in the larger rides and roller coasters at Dollywood, you’ll want to continue reading below. Even though my family and I enjoy all the rides at Dollywood, we rate some of them just a bit higher than others. So check out our list below where we have ranked the Dollywood roller coasters from best to worst!

1. Wild Eagle

The Wild Eagle roller coaster at Dollywood is a really smooth, unique ride located in Wilderness Pass. Wild Eagle seats riders on each side of the track, so you get the sense of soaring as you zoom through the ride. This roller coaster has a minimum height requirement of 50 inches.

2. Lightning Rod

The Lightning Rod is one of our favorite thrill rides at any theme park! This classic roller coaster speeds super-fast across the tracks and provides a ton of fun. The Lightning Rod has a minimum height requirement of 48 inches.

3. Dragonflier

The Dragonflier roller coaster at Dollywood sits in the Wildwood Grove section of the park. This ride is super smooth since you are suspended from the track above you. With a minimum height requirement of 39 inches, the Dragonflier is one of the best rides at Dollywood that little kids can also enjoy.

4. Tennessee Tornado

Reaching speeds of nearly 70 mph, Tennessee Tornado is Dollywood’s fastest steel coaster. With a 128-foot drop and loops, this may be the wildest ride at Dollywood. The Tennessee Tornado has a minimum height requirement of 48 inches.

5. Firechaser Express

The Firechaser Express at Dollywood is a unique roller coaster because it moves both forward and backward! This is a super exciting ride even before the big surprise of speeding backward over the tracks. The Firechaser Express has a minimum height requirement of 39 inches.

6. Big Bear Mountain

Dollywood’s newest addition, Big Bear Mountain, sits in Wildwood Grove and features a top speed of 48 mph. With a minimum height requirement of 39 inches, Big Bear Mountain is a fun roller coaster that even smaller kids can enjoy.

6. Thunderhead

Thunderhead is a wooden coaster at Dollywood that reaches speeds near 55 mph. Boasting a 100-foot drop, this classic roller coaster is a fun, exciting ride. Thunderhead has a minimum height requirement of 48 inches.

7. Mystery Mine

The Mystery Mine roller coaster at Dollywood starts out as a dark, indoor coaster that seems tame. However, this ride quickly turns into a fast-paced thrill ride that’s so much fun! The Mystery Mine has a minimum height requirement of 48 inches.

8. Whistle Punk Chaser

The Whistle Punk Chaser ride at Dollywood is located in Timber Canyon. This mini roller coaster is great for little kids while also providing fun for adults as well. Whistle Punk Chaser has a minimum height requirement of 36 inches.

9. Blazing Fury

Blazing Fury is an indoor roller coaster at Dollywood that moves slowly past scenes. Although it features some quick drops that bring excitement, Blazing Fury isn’t one of our favorite roller coasters at Dollywood. The scenes are a bit odd (even creepy), and the ride doesn’t offer enough thrill to place it higher on our list. Blazing Fury has a minimum height requirement of 42 inches.

10. Black Bear Trail

I’m not really sure that Black Bear Trail can be classified as a roller coaster. But it does involve a track, so we will include it on our list. Even though this ride sits at the bottom of our list, Black Bear Trail is a really cute attraction, especially for little kids. With a minimum height requirement of 36 inches, Black Bear Trail allows you to ride a bouncing bear as it moves along a track in Wildwood Grove.

More Dollywood Rides

Although not a roller coaster, we feel the need to give an honorable mention to the Drop Line ride at Dollywood. This thrilling attraction takes riders up 20 stories before it plummets in an exciting vertical drop. Drop Line is lots of fun, and it features great views of the Dollywood Theme Park. It has a minimum height requirement of 55 inches.
